LifeReady Character Program - Lower School - McDonogh School-bet356

LifeReady Character Program

The LifeReady Character Program is a unique, teacher-created initiative designed to promote the social and emotional development of Lower School children. The goal of the program is not to simply teach about values but rather to show children how to apply and practice those values in their everyday lives.

The LifeReady Character Program addresses seven themes:

  • Practicing Mindfulness
  • Embracing Diversity
  • Developing Empathy
  • Advocating for Self and Others
  • Resolving Conflict
  • Expressing Gratitude
  • Understanding Global Citizenship.

The themes are introduced and reinforced through age-appropriate children’s literature that communicates the themes in meaningful and memorable ways. In addition, themes are discussed during homeroom meeting times, featured in monthly chapel gatherings, celebrated at assemblies, and shared again whenever a “teachable moment” arises.
